Klymenko: Ukraine’s anti-corruption bodies paralyzed due to top-down pressure
The head of the SAPO is confident that his department will face "even stronger political pressure and smear campaigns," even after the adoption of the law on restoring its independence.
This was reported by Oleksandr Klymenko to The Financial Times.
Klymenko noted that the latest actions against his department are part of "coordinated" efforts by high-ranking government officials. In his opinion, the goal of this campaign is to undermine the independence of Ukraine’s anti-corruption bodies, gain access to case materials, and influence the investigation process.
"Our work has effectively stopped. Almost all our informants have ceased cooperating with us," he stated.
The head of the SAPO declared that the upper echelons of the country’s power not only participate but are deeply involved in the "undermining of Ukraine’s anti-corruption course."
