Kryvonos: The Prosecutor General did not take cases from NABU after the limitation of independence

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Ruslan Kravchenko, did not exercise his powers to withdraw cases from NABU after the adoption of law No. 12414. The Prosecutor General had this right from July 22 to July 31, when NABU’s independence was restored.

The head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, Semen Kryvonos, noted that there was no interference in NABU’s cases. He stated this in an interview with "Suspilne".

"He did not request the cases, he did not study them, he did not determine the jurisdiction of our cases for other law enforcement agencies, so there was no interference in this regard," said Kryvonos.

He also pointed out that after the adoption of law No. 13533, the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, Oleksandr Klymenko, "can notify officials of category A, members of parliament, ministers, that is, all high-ranking officials, about suspicion."

According to him, now the head of the SAPO can independently create a team of prosecutors in a criminal proceeding.

According to the new law, employees of NABU and other law enforcement agencies who have access to state secrets must undergo two checks. The first one is to be conducted once every two years by the internal control unit of NABU with the mandatory use of a polygraph.

"This is a normal practice for us. Our internal control unit conducts many polygraphic studies. The only problem we need to solve now is to recruit additional polygraph examiners to the staff," said Kryvonos.
