The DIU could have identified vulnerabilities in the Russian nuclear submarine fleet
The Ukrainian intelligence agency obtained secret data about Russia’s newest nuclear submarine "Knyaz Pozharskyi." This information may reveal vulnerabilities in other submarines of the aggressor state.
This is reported by The Times.
According to the publication, "Knyaz Pozharskyi" is the most advanced Russian strategic missile-carrying submarine of the "Borei-A" class. It is stationed in Gadzhievo, Murmansk region, and is part of Russia’s Northern Fleet. This submarine is a key element of Russia’s nuclear triad.
According to The Times, as a result of the hack, Ukrainian intelligence could have learned about the weaknesses not only of this submarine but also of the entire fleet of "Borei" class submarines, which play a strategic role for Russia in the Arctic.
The journalists point out that over the past ten years, Russia has significantly increased its military and economic presence in the Arctic. This region has strategic importance due to its rich but currently underdeveloped natural resources, as well as new maritime routes.
In particular, Russian strategic submarines regularly perform patrols under the ice in the Arctic region, demonstrating military might. Simultaneously, there is active development of natural resources such as oil, gas, and mineral raw materials.
The Northern Fleet, which manages the "Borei" project submarines, systematically conducts training in Arctic conditions, including under-ice navigation.
"Knyaz Pozharskyi"
"Knyaz Pozharskyi" belongs to the 955A project "Borei-A" class nuclear submarines and is considered one of the most advanced units in Russia’s nuclear triad. It features high stealth, good maneuverability, and significant strike power.
The submarine is equipped with 16 launch tubes for R-30 "Bulava" missiles, each capable of carrying up to ten nuclear warheads.
