In Izmail, a moped driver shot police officers: one killed, attacker detained

In the city of Izmail, Odesa region, a 45-year-old moped driver opened fire on police officers when they stopped him to check his documents. One of the law enforcement officers was killed in the line of duty, and the attacker was detained.

This was reported by the communication department of the Odesa police. It is noted that the tragedy occurred on August 5 around 18:00 on the outskirts of Izmail.

According to preliminary information, officers of the patrol police response sector stopped the moped for a standard document check. The driver behaved aggressively, after which he drew a weapon and began shooting at the police officers.

"As a result, one of the officers was injured. In response, the police officer used his service weapon and wounded the attacker. Both were hospitalized. Unfortunately, the senior police lieutenant died in the hospital," the report states.

The attacker with gunshot wounds is under medical supervision. He is detained in the procedural order.
