In Dnipro, a scheme of embezzling budget funds during the repair of communal infrastructure has been uncovered

The police reported suspicion to a group of Dnipro City Council officials involved in the embezzlement of budget funds.

This was reported by the Department of Strategic Investigations.

Among the suspects are former and current officials and contractors. They embezzled over 2 million UAH during the ongoing repair of the drainage system and waste collection sites in the city of Dnipro.

According to the operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in the Dnipropetrovsk region of the National Police, the scheme was organized by the former deputy director of the Dnipro City Council’s department and the chief engineer of a municipal enterprise. As accomplices, they involved the current director of the Dnipro City Council’s department, as well as the director and accountant of the contracting firms.

The contractors knowingly included false information about the inflated cost of building materials in the work completion acts, which the officials signed.

On August 11, the police conducted over 65 searches and seized documentation, vehicles, and more than 17 million UAH in cash in various currencies.

Investigators reported suspicion to five suspects. Their actions are qualified under Art. 27 part 5 Art. 191 (Appropriation, embezzlement of property or seizing it through abuse of official position), Art. 27, Art. 28 part 1 Art. 366 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
