In Khmelnytskyi region, a UOC-MP abbot was arrested for beating a serviceman to death
The abbot of the UOC-MP monastery in Starokostyantyniv, Khmelnytskyi region, was notified of suspicion and a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail was chosen. The man is suspected of beating a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to death.
This was reported by the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Under the procedural guidance of the Khmelnytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, a 46-year-old man was served a suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the victim (part 2, article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The incident took place in August this year on the territory of the monastery in the city of Starokostyantyniv.
The clergyman, being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, started a verbal conflict with a 51-year-old man. During the dispute, he beat him, delivering numerous blows with his hands and feet.
The victim died at the scene from the injuries received.
A preventive measure was chosen for the suspect — detention without the right to bail.
He faces up to 10 years in prison.
Background
On August 3, 2025, in the Khmelnytskyi region on the territory of the UOC-MP monastery, a serviceman died. Local deputy Serhiy Zhmurko claims that the incident occurred after alcohol consumption between the deceased and the abbot. Allegedly, Father Iosaf Horkavchuk beat the serviceman.
