Students are massively taking academic leaves to go abroad, — President of the Confederation of Employers

Students are massively taking academic leaves to go abroad, stated Oleksiy Miroshnichenko, President of the Confederation of Employers of Ukraine, on Ukrainian television.

According to him, this trend emerged after the government allowed men aged 18 to 22 to leave Ukraine.

«The government’s decision was made just 12 days ago, so it is too early to talk about a widespread problem. However, in my opinion, the trend is not very positive. Students are seeking to take academic leave or switch to online learning in order to leave. This information comes from the rector of one of the universities», – noted Miroshnichenko.

He also emphasized that the outflow of young people is already being felt in the labor market.

«Businesses are facing a significant shortage of workers, especially skilled ones. They are investing in retraining and upskilling women, youth, elderly people, and people with disabilities. Allowing 18-22-year-olds to leave may change the situation in the labor market, but it is too early to draw conclusions», – added the President of the Confederation of Employers.
