Massive attack on Ukraine ahead of UN General Assembly: Zelenskyy calls for stronger sanctions
The Russian Federation launched a massive attack on Ukraine on the eve of the start of the UN General Assembly. The world must strengthen sanctions against the aggressor.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote about this on Telegram.
Zelenskyy reminded that rescue operations and debris clearance are currently underway following a Russian strike on Zaporizhzhya. According to him, guided aerial bombs hit civilian infrastructure and residential buildings.
"Fifteen apartment buildings and ten private houses were damaged. As of now, three fatalities have been reported. My condolences to the families and loved ones," he noted.
The President also reported that drone attacks overnight targeted Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions. In total, over 140 drones were recorded, some of them being "Shaheds."

In Sumy, a bread production facility, a school, and a kindergarten were damaged, with one person injured. A school in Malotaranivka, Donetsk region, also sustained damage.
Zelenskyy emphasized that relevant services are working in all necessary locations.
UN General Assembly
Separately, the President reminded that the UN General Assembly is beginning its work. He stressed that for the fourth time, Russia accompanies this annual diplomatic event with its killings.
"That is why it is so important for this diplomatic week to be productive. We must act so that killings and war do not become routine. There needs to be truly strong pressure on Russia, new joint steps by everyone in the world who believes that international law must work again," Zelenskyy said.
He added that sanctions, political pressure, and holding Russia accountable for the war are necessary, and expressed gratitude to all partners for supporting Ukraine.
