"Why do we need Tomahawk?": a military expert discussed the advantages of Ukrainian "Flamingo" missiles
The rhetoric regarding the transfer of American Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine is completely unclear, as Ukrainian-made "Flamingo" missiles have a range of 3000 km and a warhead of 1150 kg, while the Tomahawk has a range of 1500 km and a warhead of 500 kg.
This opinion was expressed by military expert Dmytro Snehyryov, co-chair of the public initiative "Prava Sprava".
"As for the ’Flamingo’ missile, I would like to see its practical implementation. If two such missiles are produced per day, and a month has already passed since the Ukrainian side presented the production of ’Flamingo’, then there should be at least 50-60 missiles. A range of 3000 km is a serious tactical and technical characteristic, considering the warhead of 1150 kg. And I have a question - why are we striking oil refineries with drones when we have such means of destruction? And 50 missiles are more than enough to collapse the oil refining industry and break through the Russian air defense system, which is absolutely imperfect, using swarm attack tactics. If the Russians can’t shoot down a drone, there’s no need to even mention ’Flamingo’," commented the military expert.
According to him, the warhead of a drone is 120 kg, while that of the ’Flamingo’ is 1150 kg, so logical questions arise about objective control data regarding the use of ’Flamingo’. After all, its use on a border outpost in Crimea did not involve a distance of 3000 km, unless it was a test launch, in which case it can be understood.
"In that case, we should talk about the rhetoric regarding the possibility of transferring Tomahawk missiles, which is completely unclear. I emphasize once again that the ’Flamingo’ has a range of 3000 km and a warhead of 1150 kg, while the Tomahawk has a range of 1500 km and a warhead of 500 kg. Why on earth do we need those Tomahawks, especially with or without permission from the US to strike Russian territory, if we have our own means of destruction?" concluded Snehyryov.
