The Verkhovna Rada supported the creation of Cyber Forces as part of the AFU
The Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading draft law No. 12349, which provides for the creation of Cyber Forces in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by the parliament’s press service in Telegram.
It is known that 255 deputies voted in favor,informed MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
The explanatory note to the draft law states that it is planned to create a military and technical organizational structure within the Armed Forces based on NATO standards, which will be responsible for the cyber defence of Ukraine, the protection of its sovereignty, and territorial integrity in cyberspace.
The primary task of Ukraine’s Cyber Forces will be the preparation and conduct of military measures for the state’s cyber defence, the protection of Ukraine’s sovereignty and inviolability in cyberspace, or with its use.
It should be noted that cyber forces exist in more than 40 countries worldwide and this is part of a global trend to strengthen cyber defence.
According to Minister of Defence Denys Shmyhal, the activities of the Cyber Forces will include military cooperation with NATO and other partners to counter common threats in cyberspace.
Importantly, the Cyber Forces will also be able to involve civilians, who will not acquire military status and will perform tasks according to the contract concluded.
