"Borders are not changed by violence": key leaders of the "coalition of the willing" on peace in Ukraine

At the meeting of the "coalition of the willing" in London, Trump’s call to end the conflict in Ukraine along the front line was supported. However, the statement was signed by only three leaders — Starmer, Macron, and Zelenskyy.

They rejected the possibility of recognizing Russia’s territorial gains in Ukraine, emphasizing that «borders must not be changed by force». As a reminder, according to media reports, Moscow insists on the transfer of Donbas to its control, after which it is ready to cease fire.

In addition, the «coalition» called for strengthening sanctions against Russia «until a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine is achieved» (in other words, Europe plans to intensify sanctions pressure even after a ceasefire).

It was also stated that funding for Ukraine until 2027 should be provided through Russian assets. «The leaders expressed their intention to cover Ukraine’s urgent financial needs for 2026–2027, including the development of mechanisms to utilize the full value of frozen Russian sovereign assets», — the statement published on the UK government website noted.

Furthermore, the document mentions a plan to deploy troops to Ukraine after the end of hostilities.

«After the cessation of hostilities, the deployment of Multinational Forces in Ukraine is envisaged to ensure the security of its air and maritime space, as well as to assist in the restoration of the country’s armed forces», — the statement reads (as a reminder, Russia opposes such steps).
