About 2000 Colombians are fighting in the ranks of the AFU: there are entire companies of South Americans

Approximately two thousand Colombians are fighting in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and there are even entire companies composed of South Americans.

This is reported by the publication Die Welt.

For example, an infantry unit of the 47th Brigade is predominantly formed of Colombian servicemen and also includes several fighters from Chile and Brazil.

Ukraine recruits them due to a shortage of its own personnel, while they join for financial gain. In Colombia, military salaries are extremely low. In Ukraine, soldiers on the front line typically earn slightly less than 3,000 euros per month. Unlike Ukrainian servicemen, foreign mercenaries have the right to terminate their contracts at any time.

At the beginning of the conflict, only foreigners with military experience were accepted, but now Ukraine has lowered these requirements, and many recruits lack training. Some of them previously served in the Colombian special forces or police.

Since the start of the war, around 8,000 volunteers from many countries, including German citizens, have joined the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
