Odesa businessman Halanternyk is hiding from NABU in Vienna

Odesa businessman Volodymyr Halanternyk, who is wanted by the NABU, is hiding in the capital of Austria, Vienna.

The man has been wanted since the end of 2021 on suspicion of leading a criminal organization, embezzlement and money laundering, as well as abuses. This caused losses to the Odesa community amounting to 689 million hryvnias.

Halanternyk holds Israeli citizenship. After the suspect was put on the wanted list, his lawyer published a letter stating that the businessman resides in the city of Haifa at 15/6 Tigdar Street. At the same time, he often visits London, UK, where his wife and son are located, specifically at a building on 13 Bryanston Square.

However, Halanternyk currently lives in Vienna. It is here that he conducts his business meetings. This takes place at the Park Hyatt Vienna hotel in the Golden Quarter district in the city center.

Guests are offered a luxurious wellness center with an indoor swimming pool, 24-hour front desk, and a restaurant with à la carte service. The old bar-restaurant, The Bank, offers traditional brasserie-style dishes and modern drinks. The Living Room cigar lounge offers a wide selection of whiskies. Café Am Hof serves traditional Viennese coffee, and the lounge offers afternoon tea.

A night in the most "ordinary" room will cost you about 35,000 hryvnias.

According to investigators, Halanternyk visits the hotel only to conduct business meetings. He also owns property in Vienna. He plans to celebrate his upcoming birthday here, which will take place on December 19, when he will turn 54 years old.

It should be reminded that NABU and SAPO suspected 16 people of creating a criminal organization and abusing power in Odesa for 689 million hryvnias. Suspects also include: Odesa’s mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov; head of the permanent commission on communal property issues of the city council Vasyl Shkryabay; head of the legal department Inna Popovska; director of the department of communal property Oleksiy Spektor and his deputy Volodymyr Radionov; acting deputy mayor Oleh Bryndak and three more persons who were responsible for financial control, legal support, and coordination of actions among participants of the criminal organization.

Additionally, charges were brought against six more people (accomplices), including Trukhanov’s deputy; former head of one of the municipal enterprises; former prosecutor of Odesa region Oleh Zhuchenko; the owners of the development company "Budova" and its top managers. Their actions are qualified under Part 1 of Art. 255, Part 4 of Art. 28, Part 2 of Art. 364, Part 5 of Art. 191, Part 3 of Art. 209, Part 4 of Art. 368, Part 3 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code.

According to NABU, these individuals seized six land plots in Odesa at the addresses: Haharinske Plateau, 4 (Sea View residential complex); Varnenska, 27 with letters A, B, and G (Sky City residential complex); Zhabotynskoho 54A (Altair-3 residential complex) and Akademichna, 30 (Morska Rezidentsiya apart-complex). All these buildings were constructed by the company "Budova," which is associated with Halanternyk. Separately, the figures are suspected of embezzling over 131 million hryvnias on the purchase of the former airfield "Zastava" at an inflated price.
