Paramedic Zarembo: AFU losing positions in war due to technological lag
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently "losing positions" in the war, especially in terms of technology.
This opinion was expressed by paramedic Kateryna Zarembo.
She supports the statement that there is currently no clear line of contact at the front; instead, there is a so-called kill zone about 10 km wide, where "Ukrainian and Russian positions and shelters are mixed," and FPV drone operators often find themselves in forward positions close to the enemy, becoming vulnerable to attacks and actions by sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRGs).
Another 20 km or more of territories under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are "exhausted" by continuous strikes from guided aerial bombs (GABs), drones, and other types of weaponry. For example, the road from Slovyansk to Izyum has been dubbed the "road of death," despite being over 20 km from the front line.
"This is possible because Russia is rapidly improving its technologies. At this pace, the gray zone will expand to 30, 40 km, and beyond. Advanced GABs are capable of hitting targets at distances of 100 to 140 kilometers, reaching even the Poltava region. Loitering drones operating via fiber optics are another threat. I am confident that there are many other developments that I personally have not encountered," Zarembo notes.
The situation has also worsened in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where the enemy’s offensive is in full swing. In just two months, the urban-type settlement of Pokrovske, located 12 km from the front, has turned into a "ghost town," and a real threat looms over Pavlohrad.
«Information in the news is presented through media «points.» Currently, these are Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, and it might seem that this is the entire front. Or, for example: «The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled the enemy in settlement A but lost settlement B.» Most people hear these names for the first time, and they mean nothing to them. Meanwhile, no single media outlet, nor all of them combined, provides a complete picture of what is happening. I previously mentioned a new front in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and since then, the situation has only deteriorated. This direction is completely «non-media,» but the offensive there is active. I’ve been in the army since July and couldn’t even imagine that so quickly a place where we worked would appear on my record as already occupied. The district center, a small, flourishing settlement of Pokrovske (not to be confused with Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region), has become a ghost town in two months, resembling Dobropillia. It is now located 12 km from the line of combat. You can still get there, but living there is no longer possible. The problem is not just in grim jokes about how soon we’ll be on duty in Pavlohrad — the problem is that at this pace of the offensive, if it is not stopped, we will retreat from there as well. From a conditional Kyiv, it may seem that the war is still far away, but believe me, it is getting closer. Let’s calculate: add 20–30 km of gray zone to the front line and draw conclusions,» the soldier writes.
In Zarembo’s opinion, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have the potential to gain an advantage, primarily through a technological breakthrough — both in quantitative and qualitative terms. The issue of personnel shortages comes second.
