AFU fighting back a series of attacks near Avdiivka: ISW maps

Operation No. 1 – Luhansk region

On 3 March, positional fighting continued on the Kupyansk - Kreminna line. A prominent Russian military blogger stated that Ukrainian forces had retaken several unidentified positions in the area of Tabaivka (southeast of Kupyansk).

Positional fighting continued:

near Synkivka;

south-east of Kupyansk in the area of Tabaivka;

west of Kreminna in the area of Terny and Yampolivka;

south of Kreminna in the area of Bilohorivka and Verkhnyokamianske.

The spokesman for the Eastern Military Group, Illya Yevlash, said that Russian troops had somewhat reduced the intensity of their offensive operations and were consolidating new positions in the Kupyansk direction.

Yevlash added that Russian troops are regrouping and preparing strike groups in the Lyman sector, and are moving forces to the areas of Terny and Yampolivka.

Operation No. 2 – Donetsk region

On March 3, positional battles in the Bakhmut area continued, but there were no confirmed changes in the front line.

Positional battles continued:

• northwest of Bakhmut in the Bogdanivka area;

• west of Bakhmut near Ivanivsk;

• south and southwest of Bakhmut in the area of Kleshchiivka, Andriivka, Pivdenne and New York.

On 3 March, positional fighting near Avdiivka continued, but there were no confirmed changes in the front line.

Positional fighting continued:

north-west of Avdiivka in the area of Berdychy, Stepove and Orlivka;

west of Avdiivka near Tonenke;

south-west of Avdiivka in the area of Pervomayske and Nevelske.

The spokesman for the Tauride Defence Forces, Dmytro Lykhoviy, said that the operational situation in Berdychi, Orlivka and Tonenke is stabilising, and Ukrainian forces are repelling Russian attacks in these localities.

According to Lykhoviy, Russian troops did not capture Berdychi, Orlivka or Tonenke, but achieved some local successes in the Avdiivka sector.

On 3 March, the commander of the Tavria Joint Task Force, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, said that the Russian military had dropped nine chemical munitions from drones on Ukrainian positions in the Tavria sector (Avdiivka through western Zaporizhzhya region) in a clear violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Ukrainian military observer Kostyantyn Mashovets said that Russian troops had moved several units of the Russian Central Military Group to the Avdiivka sector. Mashovets said that the Russian grouping of troops in southwestern Ukraine, probably covering Avdiivka through western Donetsk region, has about 86,332 personnel.

On 3 March, positional fighting continued to the west and southwest of Donetsk, although there were no confirmed changes to the frontline.

Positional fighting continued:

west of Donetsk in the area of Krasnohorivka and Heorhiivka;

south-west of Donetsk in the area of Pobeda and Novomykhailivka.

Positional fighting continued in the area of Robotyne in the western part of Zaporizhzhya region, but did not result in any changes on the frontline on 3 March.

Positional fighting took place in the area of Robotyne and west of Novoprokopivka (south of Robotyne).

A military blogger noted that Russian troops are advancing more slowly in the area of Verbove (east of Robotyno) than in the Robotyno area, and that Russian troops have increased artillery fire in the area in recent months.

On 3 March, positional fighting continued in the area of Krynky and Antonivskyi Bridge in the eastern (left bank) Kherson region. Russia strikes at Ukrainian positions with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) of the Russian Armed Forces.

A Russian opposition publication published a video of Russian soldiers complaining that they had to wait two days to be evacuated from a trench in Krynky.
