In Kropyvnytskyi, the new director of the theater was detained for bribery

Director of the Academic Regional Theatre named after M. Kropyvnytskyi Serhiy Korniyenko was caught receiving illegal benefits.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reports this.

According to the investigation, the director of the “Lighty Theatre” employed people in the institution he headed for a monetary reward. A place in a theater group was valued at $3.5 thousand.

He received illegal benefits in two tranches. Law enforcement officers detained the theater director while he was receiving the second part of the agreed bribe in one of the city’s restaurants.

The issue of informing the detainee about suspicion of extortion and receiving unlawful benefits (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code) and choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.

In September 2023, the competition commission unanimously supported the candidacy of director Serhiy Korniyenko for the position of head of the Coryphaeus Theater. 

Serhiy Korniyenko was born in 1988 in Pryluky, Chernihiv region. In 2012, he graduated from the I. Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv State Institute of Theatre Arts with a degree in drama theatre directing. Since 2021, he has been an acting teacher at his alma mater. Throughout his career, he has directed performances at the Kyiv Youth Interactive Theatre "MIST", the Khmelnytsky Music and Drama Theatre named after M. Starytskyi, the Kyiv Academic Youth Theatre, etc. He worked as a chief director at the Ukrainian Drama Small Theatre. He is the founder and director of the Euphoria acting school.
