The head of the Zhytomyr regional MMC was exposed for selling certificates of unsuitability

In the Zhytomyr region, the chairman of the regional military medical commission and two of his accomplices were detained while accepting a bribe.

This was reported by police in the Zhytomyr region on Thursday, April 4.

As the police said, the doctor and his two accomplices were detained during another transfer of money. According to the investigation, the so-called assistants to the head of the MMC were civilians and were looking for clients among the military sent to undergo a commission. Doctors in the Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia regions and Kyiv also provided fake certificates.

Such services cost from 3 to 5 thousand dollars, depending on “the actual injuries, wounds and illnesses of the client, as well as the desired result.” The police detained the head of the MMC and his assistants on April 3, and a bribe of $900 was also confiscated.

The police added that on April 3 they conducted searches in the offices, places of residence and cars of participants in the scheme. In total, 20 thousand dollars, 40 thousand UAH, bank cards, medical documentation, rough notes, mobile phones, flash drives, hard drives, cars were seized.

The doctor was informed of suspicion of accepting an offer, a promise, or receiving an unlawful benefit by an official (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). His accomplices were additionally charged with complicity (Part 5 of Article 27 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. All participants in the scheme could face from 5 to 10 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.
