Personnel changes in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: the commanders of OC "South" and "West" were fired

The commander of the operational command "South" Andriy Kovalchuk and the commander of the operational command "West" Serhiy Litvinov were dismissed from their positions.

This was reported by sources in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

RBC-Ukraine’s sources in the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirm that two commanders were fired from their positions at once. We are talking about Major General Andriy Kovalchuk, who was the commander of the OK "South", and Major General Serhiy Litvinov, who was the commander of the OK "West".

Andriy Kovalchuk

Major General Andriy Kovalchuk headed the operational command "South" in 2021. Before that, he was the first deputy commander of the Air Assault Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (2016-2021), and at the start of the war in 2014, Kovalchuk served as chief of staff of the 80th separate airmobile brigade.

Andriy Kovalchuk has the status of Hero of Ukraine; he also took part in peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Liberia. Participated in the battles for Slavyansk and Luhansk airport.

With the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, Kovalchuk became one of the leaders of the defense of southern Ukraine. The commander is also known for the successful operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to liberate the right bank part of the Kherson region and Kherson itself.

Serhiy Litvinov

Litvinov became commander of the operational command "West" in August 2021. Before that, he served as deputy commander of OK "North" for combat training (2017) and commander of the 17th separate tank brigade (2015-2017).

As is known from open sources, on February 28, 2022, Serhiy Litvinov received the rank of major general.

Litvinov was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnytskyi II and III degrees, as well as the Order "For Courage".
