SSU detained Russian spy who hunted for air defence systems covering Kyiv

The GRU of the Russian Federation sent its spy to us before the invasion with the legend of a seller of household chemicals.

The Ukrainian Security Service detained a Russian intelligence agent who was “reactivated” to hunt radar stations and air defense missile systems protecting the capital, the SBU press center reports .

According to the investigation, the Russian was preparing a missile and drone attack of the Russian Federation on the air defense bases of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He received this task from Russian military intelligence, for which he began working while living in Murmansk before the full-scale aggression.

To carry out an enemy mission, he arrived in Ukraine on the eve of February 24, 2022, under the “legend” of a seller of household and fuel and lubricant chemicals.

In the fall of 2023, Russian intelligence “reactivated” its agent. Under the guise of commercial trips, he “cruised” through the territory of the Kyiv and Cherkasy regions, where he tried to detect batteries and Patriot and IRIS-T air defense radar stations.

To track possible positions of Ukrainian troops, the Russian used marine binoculars and a high-resolution monocle. He also installed a hidden video camera in his own car.

The agent was supposed to transfer intelligence data in the form of media files and geolocations of Ukrainian Armed Forces units to his Russian supervisor in order to carry out synchronized air strikes on Ukraine.

The SBU detained a man in Kyiv and reported suspicion of unauthorized dissemination of information about the direction, movement of weapons, weapons and ammunition in Ukraine.
