Mobilization of prisoners: The Verkhovna Rada adopted the bill in the second reading

The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading bill No. 11079-1 on the voluntary mobilization of prisoners. In addition to persons who have committed intentional murders, rapists and pedophiles, corrupt officials who have committed crimes against the foundations of national security, as well as persons who held a particularly responsible position - in particular, deputies and ministers - will not be able to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Those convicted of serious crimes: premeditated murder, rape, sexual violence; for crimes against the foundations of national security will not be mobilized,” says People’s Deputy Honcharenko.

And Zheleznyak adds that “the anti-corruption risks (in particular for top corrupt officials), which were noted by the anti-corruption committee, have only been partially removed.”

This bill allows prisoners on non-serious charges to enter into a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine if they wish and receive parole for this.

In this case, the unit commander will have to give consent to accept prisoners.
