Law enforcement officials have exposed a large-scale system of torture of prisoners in prisons. Suspicion has been declared against workers at a colony in the Poltava region.

This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.

The State Bureau of Investigation notes that they have exposed numerous cases of torture of prisoners in a number of regions of Ukraine. Four employees of the State Institution "Bozhkovska Correctional Colony (No. 16)" in the Poltava region were charged with suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 127 (torture) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

During the investigation, numerous facts of abuse and beating of prisoners in colonies were exposed. Almost everyone who went to prison was a victim.

“New arrivals were threatened with settlement among prisoners “rejected by society” and beaten until they broke their will and were forced to unquestioningly follow any instructions. Currently, information is being verified even about the facts of death from beatings,” the report says.

According to the investigation, upon arrival at the colony, prisoners underwent a strict admission procedure; they were forced to clean the floor, filming the process on a video camera. If they refused, the victims were beaten with their hands, feet, rubber truncheons, sticks, their arms were twisted, etc. It was recorded that one of the convicts was struck more than 200 times.

The State Bureau of Investigation received a video that recorded the moment of grievous bodily harm being inflicted on one of the newly arrived prisoners at the Bozhkova Correctional Colony.

Colonial officials who have been declared suspicious face up to 10 years behind bars. The issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided.
