Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading an increase in excise taxes on cigarettes

The Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading bill #11090 on increasing the excise tax on tobacco products.

People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced this.

“The basis is 249 votes,” he said.

The people’s deputy explained that according to the bill, the excise tax on cigarettes is tied to the euro, and not to the hryvnia. In 2025 it will grow by +23%, and then 2016-2028 will be +5%.

“This year there will be an increase only in the event of devaluation,” Zheleznyak added.

The implementation of the bill will lead to an increase in budget revenues due to additional revenues from the excise tax on tobacco products in the amount of about 612 million UAH, in 2026 - 5 billion UAH, in 2027 - 9.3 billion UAH, in 2028 - 13, 8 billion UAH.
