Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the status of the English language in Ukraine

The amendment regarding budgetary support for cinemas for showing English-language films has been supported.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the status of English in Ukraine. People’s Deputy of Ukraine Yaroslav Zheleznyak reports this on Telegram.

“The Council adopted Law 9432 on the use of the English language in Ukraine. Overall there were 236 (votes) “FOR”,” he wrote.

The People’s Deputy notes that the law establishes the status of the English language as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine. The law also defines categories of positions for which candidates are required to speak English, and normalizes the specifics of using English in the work of government bodies, local governments, in the fields of education, culture, transport, healthcare, etc.

“There was a discussion on amendment No. 336 (introduced the day before the law was adopted), providing for budgetary support for cinemas for showing English-language films. It was supported (226),” Zheleznyak noted.
