Russia should realise the borders of its neighbours, - Salome Zurabishvili

Addressing the Peace Summit with the Presidents of Switzerland and Ukraine, Viola Amherd and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili noted that Ukrainians are fighting not only for the territorial integrity of their country. This is “the fight for the freedom and security of Europe as a whole” and beyond, for “the ideals of democracy and the rule of law.”

According to her, peace and Ukraine and Europe will only be established when Russia realizes that it has borders. And a new security architecture can only exist if the current aggressor state recognizes and begins to respect its neighbors and their territorial integrity.

Salome Zurabishvili noted that Georgia shares the misfortune of the Ukrainian people like no other country, because “before Bucha there was Abkhazia,” and before the occupation of the territory of Ukraine there was the occupation of the territory of Georgia.

The Georgian President also noted “the instability and confrontation that Russia has brought to the Black Sea instead of cooperation,” and added that Russia plans to strengthen the militarization of the Black Sea with an additional military base on the territory of Abkhazia.

Nuclear threats and blackmail from the Russian Federation also add to the concern because Georgia also felt the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.

"For all these reasons, we can only share the conviction that the war against Ukraine must end. However, this will only happen when, in addition to other steps, Russia realizes that it has borders like any other state, and that it has neighbors." like any other state, and that the international community, a new security architecture, will only exist when large countries not only recognize, but also respect their neighbors and their territorial integrity,” said Salome Zurabishvili.

And she concluded her speech in Ukrainian: “Glory to Ukraine!”
