On July 1, Ukrainian forces carried out a drone strike on electrical substations in the Belgorod region, which caused the Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant named after Ugarov in the Voronezh region of the Russian Federation to stop working.

This was reported by sources in the DIU, according to Ukrainska Pravda.

The strike was a joint operation of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service. The Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant is Russia’s only full-cycle metallurgical enterprise.

According to intelligence sources, the plant ceased operations as a result of kamikaze drones hitting two major power substations in the Belgorod region: Stary Oskol substation near the village of Neznamovo and Metallurgical substation near the village of Volokonovskoye.

It is reported that the operation resulted in a complete power outage at the plant, which shut down all electric arc furnaces, where the metal had frozen. It may take several months to restart them.

Sources point out that this plant is of exceptional importance to the Russian military-industrial complex, as it produces high-quality steel, including alloyed speciality steels for the automotive and engineering industries.

The following Russian defence industry companies use the plant’s products in their operations: "GAZ, UAZ, KAMAZ, and the plants of the EPK and SKF bearing companies.
