Ministry of Social Policy wants to reconsider the “philosophy” of social payments due to their excessive quantity

Due to the excessive number of obligations regarding social payments and the inability to back them up with financial resources, the Ministry of Social Policy will review the “philosophy” of social payments.

This was stated by the Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovych, within the framework of the High-Level Conference on the European Social Charter in Vilnius.

“We have taken on an excessive number of social obligations for social payments, which cannot always be confirmed by financial resources. And this imbalance entails a huge number of cases that cannot be executed from the point of view of the ability of the economy to cover such expenses,” says Zholnovych.

According to her, Ukraine’s social budget is in second place after the defense budget.

“These are huge funds that need to be optimized within the framework of the growing number of people on the verge of poverty and other vulnerable groups. We cannot increase such a resource for social spending; we must optimize it and make it as targeted as possible. We are working to review the social benefits philosophy. So that each payment has a clear goal - a person’s way out of a difficult life situation and must be associated with a service that will help a person become economically independent,” notes Zholnovych.

According to her, they have already prepared a bill on basic social assistance, which will combine the number of differentiated payments.
