SSU detained heads of the State Customs Service Department on suspicion of corruption

According to the SSU, they “levied tribute” on regional customs.

The SBU and the office of the Prosecutor General eliminated a large-scale corruption scheme in the Central Office of the State Customs Service.

The press service of the SSU reported this.

Law enforcement officers detained in Kyiv the director of the Department of Departmental Security and Control of the State Customs Service and his deputy, who, according to investigators, systematically demanded bribes from the heads of regional customs.

It is noted that those detained for money guaranteed officials not to create artificial obstacles in their professional activities and promised to cover up official violations of customs officers.

“Documentation of the criminal activities of the defendants lasted more than a year. During this time, at least 8 facts of monthly extortions were recorded,” the SSU emphasized, and added that the detainees involved their subordinate in the regional body of the State Customs Service in the scheme.

Law enforcement officers detained the head of the departmental security department of a state institution, his deputy and one of the heads of the regional customs while handing over a bribe.

A report of suspicion is being prepared to them under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

• Part 3 Art. 368 (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of undue benefit by an official);
• Part 3 Art. 369 (offering, promising or providing an undue benefit to an official).

A suspicion is also being prepared by an investigator from one of the regional customs departments, whose actions are qualified under Part 3 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code.

Currently, 28 searches are ongoing in the Central Office of the State Customs Service, in the regional departments of departmental security and control of the Western, Southern and Central regions.

The perpetrators face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
