The United States will equip Ukrainian F-16s with modern American weapons

The United States has agreed to equip dozens of F-16 fighter jets, which will be provided by Ukraine’s partners, with American-made missiles and other modern weapons. In particular, Ukrainian F-16s will receive the latest versions of the AIM-120 missile.

The Military portal writes about this with reference to the American edition of The Wall Street Journal on July 31.

The US will supply Ukraine with AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles, GBU ammunition and aerial bombs with extended range JDAM kits that turn unguided bombs into precision weapons. As Militarny notes, the Ukrainian air force has already used these weapons from Soviet-made combat aircraft.

The F-16 weapons package that will be provided by the US will also include the latest versions of the AMRAAM AIM-120 air-to-air missile and the AIM-9X short-range air-to-air missile. AMRAAM and AIM-9 missiles are used in Ukraine in ground-based air defense systems.

Sources of The Wall Street Jorunal refused to give specific dates for the transfer of F-16 fighters and weapons to Ukraine for security reasons. An unnamed US official noted that the Pentagon has limited stockpiles of ammunition and production capabilities, despite this, Ukraine will receive enough to meet immediate needs.
