Former head of colony where prisoners were tortured received UAH 400,000 bonus - Lubinets
Dmytro Lubinets said that the former official was paid bonuses of 400% of his official salary "for special achievements in work".
The former head of the Bozhkovska correctional colony in the Poltava region, where, as law enforcement officers found out, prisoners were tortured, received a bonus and other payments worth UAH 400,000 upon his dismissal. This was announced by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.
According to the Ombudsman, he initiated a study of official documentation about the activities of the colony in the Department for the Execution of Criminal Punishments of the Ministry of Justice. At the same time, the department began an internal investigation into the facts of torture of prisoners.
The Ombudsman’s Office found that in July 2023, the head of the Bozhkovska correctional colony was fired at his own request, without waiting for the final conclusions of the investigation. He was paid bonuses in the amount of 400% of his official salary “for special achievements in work” and other money totaling almost 400,000 UAH.
“Subsequently, in December 2023, the ex-head of this institution was able to obtain a decision to establish the maximum level of pension for him,” Lubinets added.
He instructed investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation to find out why the former head of the colony was given a bonus “groundlessly and illegally.”
