Ukrainians will have to pay tax on cheap parcels from abroad
The introduction of a tax on parcels up to 150 euros could lead to a collapse of the work of both customs and postal operators. This will lead to the delivery time of these parcels increasing significantly.
This was reported by the MP from "Voice" Yaroslav Zheleznyak . He explained:
- in 2023, 51.9 million parcels were received in Ukraine;
- of which the cost of only 468 thousand did not even formally exceed 150 euros.
"This means that now even less than 1% of parcels clear customs. And let’s be honest - this is not the fastest process," the MP noted.
At the same time, he emphasized, "according to the proposal of the Ministry of Finance, on one day from September 1 we will abruptly send for customs clearance not 1% of parcels, but all 52 million." Which, the MP states, will lead to a prolonged collapse of the system. Which, according to him, could take 3-6 months.
"I honestly don’t know who will be the first to "fall" from this flow: customs or postal operators (especially Ukrposhta and Nova Poshta). But the fact is that there will be a collapse in the first 3-6 months and parcels will take a very long time to arrive. The idea of abruptly introducing customs clearance from September 1 (as well as October-November 1 and even December) is technically not feasible. Even in six months it is almost impossible," he predicts.
