Energoatom spoke about the probable causes of the fire at Zaporizhzhya NPP

On Sunday evening, August 11, many Telegram channels posted photos depicting a fire at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant. The credible causes of this incident could be either the negligence of the Russian occupiers or the deliberate arson of the cooling tower.

This was reported by the press service of Energoatom.

It is noted that the fire occurred at about 20:00 on the territory of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant at the technical water supply facility. As a result of the incident, the number one cooling tower caught fire and other technological equipment was damaged.

"There are no violations of the boundaries and conditions of safe operation. No exceedance of control levels for emissions and discharges of radioactive substances has been recorded," Energoatom asserts.

Among the probable causes, "negligence of the Russian occupiers, or deliberate arson by cooling tower orcs" is indicated. The regulator noted that cooling tower number one is located approximately one kilometer from the power units of the station.

It is known that the Russians use the premises and structures of the nuclear power plant as military warehouses for storing equipment, weapons, explosives and military ammunition. They have placed military vehicles in the turbine halls of the plant,” the Energoatom statement says.

Cooling towers, according to Energoatom, are also used by the Russian military as storage facilities for military equipment and ammunition, which significantly increases the risk of fires in the production facilities of nuclear power plants.

“The degradation of the NPP systems and elements is worsening the overall safety situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP every day. Large-scale fires can lead to the development of what happened up to a radiation accident,” the regulator notes.
