London donated more than 200 cars that have to be recycled to Ukraine

More than 200 cars that do not meet London’s emissions standards have already been transferred to Ukraine, with hundreds more in preparation for shipment.

This was reported on Friday by London’s public utility Transport for London (TfL).

The ULEZ scrappage scheme, launched in London in January 2023, provides drivers with grants to purchase a green vehicle if they scrap their own vehicle.

If drivers refuse to replace their car, they must pay a daily fee of £12.50.

In March, drivers using the ULEZ scheme were given the option to pay to have their car shipped to Ukraine instead of being scrapped.

The cars are being sent to Ukraine solely to support humanitarian and medical aid efforts. According to TfL, more than 330 car owners have taken advantage of this opportunity.

With the ULEZ compensation scheme winding down, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced plans to provide additional funding "to ensure vehicles continue to come into the country after the scrappage scheme ends".

Let us recall that the decision to transfer cars that the British hand over under the ULEZ program to Ukraine was accompanied by controversy.
