ISW: Ukrainian military advances southeast of Sudzha in Kursk region

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are not only continuing their advance in Russia’s Kursk region, but are also stepping up operations southeast of Sudzha. The latest reports as of August 16 indicate changes on that front.

This became known from a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

"Ukrainian forces continued minor advances southeast of Sudzha on August 16 as Ukrainian operations continued in the Kursk region," the American analysts noted.

ISW reports that Ukrainian forces have recently advanced southeast of Sudzha, including in areas around the villages of Borki and Spalne.

In addition, hostilities continue:

  • north of Sudzha near Ruske Porechne,
  • to the east near Agronom.
  • to the southeast along the line Giryi - Kamyshe - Krupets - Spalne.

American experts note in their report that geolocation images published on August 15 confirm the activity of Ukrainian troops in these areas.

Meanwhile, Russian so-called "military bloggers" claim that Ukrainian forces have also advanced east of Myrne and south of Spalne. At the same time, Russian sources report attacks by Ukrainian forces south of Hordiivka and west of Anastasiivka.

"Geolocation footage published on August 15 and 16 indicates that Ukrainian troops continue to operate along the entire declared limit of Ukrainian advancement in the Kursk region, including near Sudzha," ISW noted.

In turn, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced the repulse of Ukrainian attacks, in particular an armored attack in the direction of Gordeyevka and attacks to the west of Anastasievka and southeast of Kauchuk. Russian bloggers also report strikes on Ukrainian forces near Otruba.
