Konotop subjected to the most powerful airstrike since the beginning of the full-scale war, - RMA
Today’s Russian shelling of the city of Konotop in the Sumy region was the largest since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
This was reported during the broadcast of the telethon "United News" by the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artyukh.
"The city of Konotop had not experienced such shelling since the start of the full-scale war. This was the largest airstrike," informed Artyukh.
He noted that the enemy aimed to demoralize the population and cause panic in the city. To this end, they planned to strike energy facilities to leave the city in darkness, and then began destroying residential houses of peaceful citizens. In other words, to create panic, to cut off water, communication, and other utility lines existing in the city. However, the city was prepared for this situation.
"The city had certain material reserves and built some protective structures. Thanks to this, the energy workers have already started reconnecting the city’s neighborhoods to electricity," emphasized the head of the administration.
According to him, when the electricity was cut off, backup power sources, which the community had prepared in advance, were in use. Consequently, the city’s residents did not experience the effects that the enemy had anticipated.
Additionally, the head of the region added that international organizations had arrived, working together with the relevant city departments on restoration and assisting the residents of Konotop.
The mayor of Konotop, Artem Semenikhin, noted that the city endured one attack that lasted about 40 minutes, possibly a bit longer. In particular, around 8 strikes were made on the city.
