Ex-judge Tandyr, sitting in custody, received almost 1.4 million hryvnias in judicial remuneration

On May 26, 2023, Oleksiy Tandyr, the chairman of the Makariv District Court of the Kyiv region, in Kyiv at a checkpoint, fatally hit a National Guard soldier. The next day, the judge was taken into custody, and he is still in a pre-trial detention center. Since May 27, 2023, he has been forced to not work, and on August 6, 2024, the High Council of Justice sent Judge Oleksiy Tandyr into retirement.

During his stay in the pre-trial detention center, he received more than 1,342,962 UAH in salary. 

On May 27, 2023, the High Council of Justice agreed to the arrest of Oleksiy Tandyr after a person died due to the fault of the judge. Tandyr also resigned as chairman of the Makariv District Court of the Kyiv region and was suspended from administering justice. An expert examination showed that at the time of the accident, Tandyr was intoxicated.

The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv left the former judge in custody until September 9, 2024. On August 6, 2024, the High Council of Justice released Judge Tandyr from his position.

The judge’s income was disclosed in response to a request to the regional office of the State Judicial Administration for the Kyiv region. From June 2023 to August 2024, Judge Oleksiy Tandyr was credited with 1,342,962 UAH.

For May 2023, the judge was credited with only 17,547 UAH. From June 2, 2023, he was credited only with a salary – without additional payments for academic degree and length of service. The judge’s salary is 63,060 UAH. However, for June 2023, Judge Tandyr was credited with only 18,095.5 UAH. The salary was disbursed to his card in December 2023 – for many months in a row. 

At the end of November and beginning of December, I was paid my salary for seven months for the first time. This is purely the accrued salary. There are taxes. About 20% and so on. Even the amounts indicated in the press are not as they truly are. Why doesn’t anyone ask what my children eat when I am in a pre-trial detention center, — Tandyr said.
