Losses due to the appropriation of Ukrainian grain by Russia exceed 30 billion UAH, but these figures are not final. This was stated by the head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in Conditions of Armed Conflict, Office of the Prosecutor General, Yuriy Byelousov, at the United for Justice conference.
«We have identified two periods of Russia’s attacks on agricultural infrastructure related to the «grain deal». Prior to its signing, shelling was carried out from artillery systems in frontline areas: the highest number of affected objects were in Mykolaiv (59) and Kherson (78) regions. After Ukraine refused the aggressor’s threatening conditions, the scale of strikes began to expand. First and foremost, Odessa and the Odesa region, which have the most powerful and developed infrastructure, became targets.»
According to him, since then, Russia has begun using a wide range of completely different means of destruction. These include «Shaheds», «Iskanders», tactical aviation missiles, as well as sea-based and ground-based missiles.
«This indicates that this is a well-coordinated policy of Russia. Various branches of the military are involved in such attacks. The decisions to carry out the attacks synchronously are made by the highest military-political leadership of the Russian Federation,» explained the representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
As Yuriy Byelousov noted, Russia aims to deprive Ukrainians of their means of subsistence. They try to steal the grain, and if that doesn’t work, they destroy it.
He added that currently, the losses Ukraine has suffered due to the appropriation of grain are preliminarily estimated to be more than 30 billion UAH.
«Considering the scale of such crimes, it is definitely possible to trace at least the crime against humanity, and in a broader perspective, one of the elements of genocide, related to the creation of conditions for the physical destruction of the nation. It is about depriving the nation of the conditions for survival, as we know the potential grain has,» concluded Yuriy Byelousov.
