Convicted of corruption, the former head of the Khmelnytskyi City Medical and Social Expert Commission (MSEC), traumatologist doctor Lyubomyr Zavyalets, has been mobilized into the army.

The ex-official served his sentence in the Khmelnytskyi pre-trial detention center. There, he expressed his desire to serve in the military under a contract. The leadership of the penal institution listened to him and appealed to the court with a motion for conditional early release. Such a procedure became possible for convicted individuals who voluntarily agree to fight after the adoption of relevant legislative changes by the Verkhovna Rada in May 2024.
In court, it was established that the former head of the MSEC meets the requirements for military service under a contract (more than three years remain until reaching the age limit for military service; he is fit for military service according to health conditions; passed professional and psychological selection; has a sufficient level of physical fitness to fulfill military duties).
The court satisfied the motion of the detention center leadership, released the doctor convicted of corruption early, and handed him over to the National Guard for escort to the military unit with which he signed a contract. If not mobilized, Lyubomyr Zavyalets would have had to remain in prison for another year and four months.
Additionally, the court applied administrative supervision to the released convict for a year, which will be conducted by the military unit commander. In particular, the former head of the MSEC is prohibited from being outside the location of the military unit and from leaving the location of the military unit for personal matters without the commander’s permission.
