Thanks to the Kursk operation, it was possible to liberate a significant number of our people, – Zelenskyy
On Monday, October 21, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, held a meeting with the Minister of Defence, Rustem Umyerov, the Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, and the Chief of the General Staff, Anatolii Barhylevych, during which, among other things, they discussed the Defence Forces’ operation in Russia’s Kursk region.
He reported this on social media.
"First and foremost – the front. Our military tasks and steps for the near future and everything needed for the effective actions of our warriors on the front line: weapons, military equipment, supplies, brigade staffing," the president explained about the meeting’s topic.
Syrskyi reported on the situation across all directions of combat operations and the repelling of enemy attacks. They also separately discussed the Kursk operation – according to the Commander-in-Chief, the Defence Forces are maintaining positions there and preventing the enemy from expanding the war onto our land.
"Instead of a buffer zone on Ukrainian territory as planned by the Russians, we have created a buffer zone near our border on Russian territory. I am grateful to all our warriors for their bravery. And a special emphasis – replenishing the exchange fund for Ukraine to free our people from Russian captivity," Zelenskyy emphasized.
According to him, it was thanks to the Kursk operation that a significant number of our people were freed.
Additionally, as the president shared, following today’s meeting, tasks were updated for relevant negotiations with partners regarding the defense support for Ukraine.
