The main figure in the case of the Donbas crash of Boeing-777 is the chief forensic expert of Ukraine in this process, the organizer of key forensic examinations in criminal processes, and the leader of expert groups for the deaths of Ukrainian soldiers in Ilovaysk and Il-76 in Luhansk Oleksandr Ruvin, who was attacked on November 18.

This is stated in a material by journalist Yuriy Butusov on "Censor.net".

When Ruvin was getting out of his car near his home in Obolon at 9:30 PM, an unknown assailant fired several shots at him. Ruvin sustained serious injuries. Two bullets went through his legs, and the third one shattered his pelvic bones and remained in his body. Surgery was carried out, and there is currently no threat to his life. However, the bullet in his pelvis has not yet been removed, as its removal currently poses a risk.

The journalist notes that the attack on the state expert is related to his professional activities — primarily with conducting examinations on the most high-profile criminal cases.

"The attempt on Ruvin’s life could pose a serious problem for the state because he plays a key role in the investigation from the Ukrainian side into the death of the Malaysian Boeing. Oleksandr Ruvin is the only explosive technician expert in Ukraine with international certification. He is part of the international commission investigating the crash of the Malaysian Boeing MH-17 from Ukraine and represented Ukraine’s position at all meetings, refuting the manipulations of Russian experts. The importance of the work of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (KNDISE) cannot be overstated — it was under Ruvin’s leadership that all expert conclusions, video films, and presentations in this case were made. It was at KNDISE that the biochemical analysis of the damaging elements of the Russian ’Buk’ was conducted, as well as the expertise of all Ukrainian anti-aircraft rockets and ’air-to-air’ missiles, proving Ukraine’s non-involvement in the crime. The conclusions of his examinations are the basis for the Dutch prosecutor’s office in this case. And the investigative actions continue — recently, Ukraine sent a batch of material evidence to the Netherlands in this case", — wrote Butusov.

He also emphasized that the attempt on Ruvin is a direct threat to the conduct of high-profile criminal proceedings and a challenge to the law enforcement system of Ukraine.

"There are grounds to suspect the involvement of state officials in committing this crime, and other versions are also not excluded", — noted Butusov.
