Zelenskyy issued a decree according to which it will be prohibited to transfer medical personnel to the infantry
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree prohibiting the appointment of medical personnel to military positions not related to medical service. Additional regulatory and legal framework will be developed for this.
The relevant decree of the president, No. 817/2024, is published on the OP’s website.
In particular, the government is required to develop additional regulatory and legal arrangements within a month to "establish, during the period of martial law, a prohibition on appointing individuals with medical education to military service positions that are not directly related to medical practice (service), except in cases where such an appointment is made at the individual’s own request." The exception is the personal desire of the medical professional.
The decree also introduces changes to conscription. The government is to consider the possible revision of the conditions for the reserving mechanism for military-liable medical workers, rehabilitation specialists, and other healthcare workers within a month.
Specifically, this concerns lifting restrictions on the number of military-liable employees in state and communal healthcare institutions.
Furthermore, regional administrations are to be obliged to coordinate with executive authorities the criteria by which they determine enterprises as critically important for the functioning of the economy and ensuring the livelihood of the population during special periods, as well as critically important for meeting the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
