On the Vremivka direction, the occupiers carried out the largest number of assaults in a week, - Voloshyn

On December 5, the occupiers conducted the highest number of assaults in a week on the Vremivka direction. They assaulted nearly 40 times over the past day.

The enemy launches attacks with small infantry groups supported by armored vehicles. The situation was explained by the spokesperson for the Southern Defence Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, in a comment to "Ukrinform".

"On the Vremivka direction, the number of enemy assault actions is constantly increasing. They conduct them in small infantry groups using combat armored vehicles. Yesterday, their tanks were even operating there... The fighting remains fierce, with, in particular, 37 combat engagements having taken place (on December 5. – Ed.). This is the largest number of such engagements in recent times," he noted, clarifying that this refers to at least a week.

The spokesperson specified that, on average, 22-26 combat engagements per day were recorded on the Vremivka direction.

According to Voloshyn, Ukrainian soldiers are doing everything possible to hold back the occupiers’ advance.

"Ukrainian Defence Forces fighters are trying to hold the line, engaging in active defence. Over the past day, they destroyed one tank and nine armored vehicles in this direction. Our fighters are attempting to conduct stabilization measures to restore positions along the line of engagement," emphasized the representative of the Southern Defence Forces.

Overall, in southern Ukraine, the Russian command has currently concentrated a group of up to 200,000.

"In general, in the south, it’s up to 200,000, about 180,000. But this includes the Black Sea Fleet, which is at least 25,000, and the troops that are located on the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea, which also number around 35,000," Voloshyn noted.

He also described which other Russian military units are trying to break through Ukrainian defence in the south.

"Against us from the southern direction is the enemy, starting with the 14th Army Corps, which represents the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation and is now stationed on the Tendrivska and Kinburn Spits. Further, there are the combined arms armies from their Southern Military District. On the Azov coast are their combined arms armies of the Eastern Military District. Additionally, there are several of their Airborne Forces formations. There are many different special units - these include drones, their reconnaissance, and the National Guard," Voloshyn listed.
