Acting Mayor of Chernihiv Oleksandr Lomako resigned

The Secretary of the Chernihiv City Council, Acting Mayor Oleksandr Lomako, announced on Local Self-Government Day that he is submitting his resignation.

This became known from the statement of the acting mayor of Chernihiv.

According to him, the heads of military administrations have besieged the city, blocking the operation of kindergartens, hospitals, public transport, and the provision of aid to the Armed Forces. Lomako is leaving his post to unblock the city’s activities. He announced this in his video address.

Officials from the military administrations, following orders from above, captured the city. Their condition is that Lomako must resign. I was told in simple terms: if I don’t do this, they will plunge the city into chaos. And they showed what would happen if I refused: the budget for 2025 would be thwarted, the city’s largest hospital would come to a complete halt, the provision of food in preschool institutions would stop, public transport would cease, and funding for the Armed Forces would be discontinued. They have seized the city. I must lift the siege. If the price is my position, I will pay it,” said Oleksandr Lomako.

Resignation Statement

“To free Chernihiv, today, on Local Self-Government Day, I submit my resignation from the position of city council secretary and request it be considered at the next session. For me, the life of the city is more important than any position,” he emphasized.

Lomako noted that appointed officials of the military administrations have systematically tried to destroy local self-governance in Chernihiv over the past two years.

“Two so-called ‘military administrators’ appointed from above, along with other harm-doers in uniform, have tried to destroy local self-governance. When they couldn’t block the work of the city council, they decided to paralyze the entire city,” he stressed.

They achieved their goal after they obtained through court the right to manage the city’s budget.

“The court, as directed by a phone call, transferred the right to manage the community’s budget to an official whom the people did not elect. This is the head of the military administration. Due to his actions, public transport in the city was suspended, there was a threat of disruption to the heating season, and the construction of defensive fortifications around Chernihiv was blocked. Aid allocated by the community for the Armed Forces, amounting to millions, lay in warehouses for months,” Lomako explained.

He stressed that such actions are criminal.

“I don’t know what kind of person you have to be to deprive children of food, the sick of treatment, and defenders of support, just to follow orders from above. I don’t know how to describe these people, but I certainly know they have names, and there are corresponding articles in the criminal code. In civilized countries, such issues are not discussed with them. They are punished right away. Everything has a limit, and they have crossed it,” emphasized Oleksandr Lomako.

He thanked the Chernihiv community for their trust and stated that he would continue to work for the benefit of Chernihiv.

“I am leaving the position with a budget for 2025, warmth and light in the homes, protection and recovery programs, good reconstruction progress in the city, and record aid for the Armed Forces. I continue to work and fight against scoundrels and for a better future for Chernihiv. No matter how hard it is now, know that the darkest times are before dawn. And we will greet this dawn together,” emphasized Oleksandr Lomako.
