Trump definitely wants to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, - Yermak

After the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in Paris, it became clear that Trump truly intends to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

This was revealed in an interview for the project "Karpyak at Suspilne" by the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak.

According to Yermak, Trump wants to stop the war through a just peace.

Yermak added that for America today, supporting dictatorship is impossible. He explained that the conversation among the three presidents in Paris was a response to the lies of Russian propaganda, which claims that "Ukraine does not want peace."

The Head of the Office of the President noted that he is glad that Zelenskyy has already met twice with the U.S. President-elect, who respects Ukraine.

Speaking about the dialogue with the American side, Yermak emphasized that it is important for the plans and steps to be implemented by the new administration to be shared today.

"For them to hear us, for them to really — and it’s not easy — very quickly acquire all the information from the past three years, to receive firsthand information about what’s happening today on the front, all the risks of these talks about some cease-fire, just cease-fire, without any guarantees. They need to have a clear understanding of our position regarding guarantees, as it’s crucial for us to end this war with a just peace, to have very strong legal and operational guarantees because, unfortunately, our experience has shown that the guarantees we had until now did not ensure real security for us, as this war occurred," Yermak said.

According to Yermak, it’s good that preparatory consultations with the U.S. President-elect Trump’s team are taking place before the inauguration. This provides an opportunity for the sides to start working on specific issues immediately after January 20th. The main topic is ending this war, but ending on terms of a just peace, the official explained.

"I believe this means on Ukraine’s terms. Because all that Ukraine needs is the restoration of international law, the restoration of our territorial integrity. And this is what we mean when we talk about a just peace," said the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

He added that the "red lines" in negotiations are all included in the Constitution of Ukraine.
