Yermak: Trump wants to end the war in Ukraine on fair terms
After the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump in Paris, it was understood that the elected president of the United States truly wishes to end the war in Ukraine. Moreover, on the terms of a just peace.
This was reported by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, in an interview for the "Karpyak on Suspilne" project.
According to him, Trump aims to end the war through a just peace, as support for dictatorship is currently impossible for the USA.
Yermak emphasized that the conversation among the three presidents in Paris served as a response to the falsehoods of Russian propaganda, which claims that "Ukraine does not want peace."
He also noted that he is glad that Zelenskyy has already met with the elected U.S. president for the second time, who respects Ukraine.
Discussing the dialogue with the American side, the head of the OP emphasized the importance of unified plans and steps that the new administration intends to take.
"So that they hear us, so that they can indeed quickly receive information from the front, considering all the risks of talks about any ceasefire. Just a ceasefire, without any guarantees. Clearly understanding our position regarding guarantees, as it is extremely important for us to end this war with a just peace, having strong legal and working guarantees, since in our, unfortunately, experience, all previous guarantees did not provide us with real security, because this war has fallen upon us," Yermak said.
According to him, it is good that preparatory consultations with Trump’s team are taking place before the inauguration. This allows work on specific topics to begin immediately after January 20. And the main topic is to end the war, but on the terms of a just peace.
"I believe these are the conditions of Ukraine. Since all Ukraine needs is the restoration of international law and our territorial integrity. And this is what we talk about when we mention a just peace," said the head of the OP.
He added that all the "red lines" in the negotiations are anchored in the Constitution of Ukraine.
