The lawyer explained how the accused Zinchenko sees himself: why some Ukrainians defended him

Accused of the murder of public figure Iryna Farion, Dnipro resident Vyacheslav Zinchenko considered himself a "sanitarian of society." And part of the Ukrainians, after the disclosure of evidence in the case, came to his defense, apparently due to their ignorance.

This was stated in an interview with TSN.ua by lawyer Nataliya Romanyk, who represents the interests of the linguist’s daughter. According to the channel’s information, the start of the trial in Lviv is planned in a few days, where it will be definitively determined who killed Iryna Farion.

In particular, the lawyer emphasized that the question regarding the existence and sufficiency of evidence falls within the competence of the court. However, in her opinion, there is more than enough evidence.

"Was the investigation fair? It was a matter of honor for the Lviv police. There is such a video surveillance system called ’Safe City,’ which helped solve this crime," she added.

Regarding the fact that some Ukrainian citizens doubt Zinchenko’s involvement in the murder on social media, Romanyk urged critics to familiarize themselves with the "Dunning-Kruger effect (the effect of the amateur)."

"These scientists explained why society does not trust the results of the investigation. People who do not have sufficient competence or information on the topic feel competent enough because... due to their incompetence, they do not understand this. That’s why there are so many comments, everyone suddenly became experts in the criminal process," the lawyer noted.

As found by TSN.ua, during the investigation, it was found that on his device, the suspect left a note written in Russian: "I am the sanitarian of this society." He wrote this before his arrest, and afterward, according to Romanyk, "he chatted a little and then went silent." She suggests that for the 18-year-old guy, the key motive for Farion’s murder was cognitive dissonance.

"The war... and a young man liable for military service, at the same time looking up information about roads and about a Romanian passport. Very patriotic queries... I can only make assumptions based on the facts and materials of the case," said the lawyer, adding that the young man had been preparing for the crime since at least April 2024 (the murder happened on July 19. – Editor).

The lawyer admitted that there was nothing in this case that surprised her. At the same time, she is convinced that the end is still far away.

"Nothing surprised me. I have handled many murder cases. I understand the algorithms of investigation. I am glad the investigation was conducted well, of high quality, not just for society’s approval... The road is long. We are ready to go. I have already had four absolute acquittals. Now the goal is lifelong isolation from society if Zinchenko is found guilty by the court," Romanyk stated.
