The Armed Forces of Ukraine explained why Pokrovsk is so important for Putin

In the area of the Pokrovsk direction in the Donetsk region, the Russians have concentrated over 70,000 servicemen not just to surround this city, but also to disrupt the logistical connections of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

This was reported by the head of the Council of Reservists of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Ivan Tymochko.

He noted that Pokrovsk is important for Russian President Vladimir Putin not only from a military perspective but also from a political one: "To keep Pokrovsk surrounded, the occupiers will need a significant additional amount of troops. To do this, they will either have to divert resources from other directions or transfer reinforcements towards the city."

Tymochko believes that to capture Pokrovsk, the occupiers may seek to establish complete control over Kurakhove to create a platform there for moving troops in the Pokrovsk direction: "The enemy’s plans are clear, but to surround such a large city, the occupiers need to advance with wide flanks. I believe that the Russians will try to advance towards key logistical routes."

However, Tymochko noted that no combat operations for the city are currently taking place.
