Kurakhove is lost, but it could have been worse, - military journalist
The battles for Kurakhove, which lasted for more than two months, have ended.
This was reported on Telegram by Ukrainian military journalist Bohdan Miroshnikov.
He notes that a miracle did not happen, but emphasizes that the battles ended only the day before yesterday – «and not any earlier, as some have already rushed to claim», since the raising of the enemy’s flag does not necessarily mean the complete occupation of the city.
Miroshnikov writes that the withdrawal from the pipe plant and the thermal power plant was difficult: «The main thing is that we did not allow the encirclement of our garrison, which defended the city, our fighters escaped the trap».
The observer predicts that in the coming days the Russians will have more public successes due to the Ukrainian troops straightening the line of defence, for which they will have to withdraw from certain territories.
Miroshnikov believes that the fate of Kurakhove was sealed after the simultaneous loss of Ukrainsk, Hirnyk, and Vuhledar: «After this, the withdrawal from Kurakhove was a matter of time, as holding it normally was no longer possible».
According to the observer, Ukrainian marines and paratroopers made an invaluable contribution to the defence of this area and delayed the withdrawal from Kurakhove by at least a month and a half.
