Zelenskyy thanked the USA for the new sanctions package against the Russian Federation
The new series of sanctions against more than 400 individuals connected with the Russian energy sector significantly undermines the financial foundation of the Russian military machine, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"I am grateful to President Biden, his administration, and all the American people for the newly announced package of sanctions against more than 400 entities connected to the Russian energy sector. Bipartisan support from the United States is indeed very important, and we feel it," - Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram on Friday evening.
He emphasized that the imposed sanctions disrupt supply chains in Russian energy trade.
"These measures seriously undermine the financial foundation of the Russian war machine as they disrupt supply chains: key Russian producers, insurance companies, service providers in the oil and gas sector, 184 tankers of the shadow fleet, logistical facilities, and third-country companies," Zelenskyy added.
The head of state also highlighted the importance of implementing restrictions on Russian extraction companies.
"Particularly worth noting is the pressure on companies like ’Surgutneftegas’ - a key financial resource for Putin himself. Such actions send a clear signal: criminals must pay for their crimes. The less revenue Russia receives from oil and other energy resources, the sooner peace will be restored," Zelenskyy stated.
The President of Ukraine stressed that energy resources should not be weapons, "as Russia does." At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasized that countries that respect international law can and should ensure stable and reliable energy supply for the whole world.
"We are sincerely grateful for America’s leadership in holding Russia accountable. I am confident that these steps will significantly reduce Russia’s petrodollar revenues, and with them - its ability to continue aggression," he concluded.
