Zaluzhnyi explained what Ukraine and the world need to do to win the war
The initial aggressive actions of Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Putin were met with the same response from the international community, noted former Ukrainian Armed Forces commander Valeriy Zaluzhnyi. This ultimately led to an 11-year war. Considering the current situation, he explained what Ukraine should do.
Russia receives support from China, Iran, and North Korea, but historians will only be able to accurately determine in 100 years whether Russia’s war is a world war. However, the world has the experience of two global wars, during which, in the Second World War, they managed to defeat the bloody dictator, the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler. Past events indicate that even the most terrible dictatorships can be defeated. How Ukraine should act in the current conditions was addressed by the former commander of the Armed Forces and current ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, in a column on the ’Ukrainian Pravda’ portal.
Zaluzhnyi’s statement — stance on victory in the war
Zaluzhnyi’s column was published on the anniversary of the liberation of prisoners from the largest Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in the city of Oswiecim, southern Poland. The former Ukrainian Armed Forces commander compared the circumstances under which the leader of the Reich Adolf Hitler acted 80 years ago with the current actions of the leader of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. As a result, he emphasized that in both cases their actions led to a great war. Allies found a way to defeat Hitler 80 years ago, the author of the column recalled. Zaluzhnyi noted that there is a real possibility to destroy the dictator and end Putin’s war. He hopes that victory will come due to the mistakes that dictators are prone to.
"But definitely (and history confirms this), what dictatorial regimes cannot do is avoid fatal mistakes," he noted.
Zaluzhnyi’s ideas for ending the war
The former military outlined a general direction in which to move. According to Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine should have a new strategy with the following steps:
- controlling the situation on the battlefield;
- creating a system that allows the country to survive;
- implementing new technological solutions.
Analogy between Hitler and Putin
Zaluzhnyi cited historical events that occurred 80 years ago and over the past 11 years, which were mistakes of Western politicians. Among other things, he mentioned the Olympic Games, which in both cases took place on the eve of a great war. The cover of The Times with Hitler and Putin, the annexation of Austria and Crimea, among others. Then, as now, the world is engaged in a policy of appeasing the aggressor, while he gains new allies, noted the former commander.
"Because while the West continued to fear Putin’s ’red lines’ and recited prayers about the need to avoid escalation, China, North Korea, and Iran had already united around Russia," the column states.
In addition to appeasement, Western politicians delayed providing assistance, Zaluzhnyi pointed out. As a result, the war transitioned into a protracted phase, and new technological solutions emerged on the field, which changed everything and brought new threats, he noted.
"We have entered a state of protracted war, the exit from which is still ahead. New technologies have appeared on the front, which are already becoming decisive and will change the global security of the future," Zaluzhnyi concluded.
