In Odesa, a military officer was sentenced to 5 years in prison for "court mining"

The Malynovskyi District Court of Odesa found a UAF serviceman guilty of making a false report about the mining of the courthouse. The perpetrator had previously been convicted multiple times.

This was reported by the "Judicial Reporter" with reference to the verdict dated January 22.

As stated in the verdict, a native of the village of Shyriayeve in Odesa region, a rifleman-sniper, on October 2, 2024, at about two in the morning called the "102" hotline and reported that the premises of the Malynovskyi District Court of Odesa were mined. Upon inspection, the report was not confirmed.

At the court hearing, the accused fully admitted his guilt and expressed sincere remorse for his actions. He explained that he was intoxicated when he decided to call the police. He did not choose the name of a specific court and reported the mining of the court whose name he knew. There were no real reasons for reporting the preparation of an explosion in the building. At the time of the crime, the serviceman was at home on leave.

The verdict noted that the defendant had been repeatedly brought to criminal responsibility for thefts. The last time was in 2023 when he was sentenced to a suspended punishment for stealing money and documents from his cohabitant.

He committed the new crime during the probation period for the previous verdict. Therefore, by the combination of sentences, the term of imprisonment will be 5 years and one month. The defendant is in custody.

An examination revealed signs of "mild mental retardation with significant behavioral disturbances requiring care and therapeutic measures" in this man. The accused is unable to fully understand and control his actions, has low control over his emotions, impulses, and behavioral reactions. Considering this, the convict will receive outpatient psychiatric care at the place of serving the sentence.

The court ordered the accused to pay 4775 UAH in procedural costs and confiscated the mobile phone from which the serviceman reported the false mining.
